Florian Wirtz is struggling at Liverpool - and could recover his skills at the World Cup
Florian Wirtz, after a torrid first season at Liverpool, will be looking to regain his form at the World Cup as he aims to lead Germany to victory and prove his worth after a high-profile transfer.

Germany's leading man, Florian Wirtz, will be looking to prove his mettle again at the World Cup, where his performances will make him forget his struggles at Liverpool. At the age of 19, he attracted the attention of Europe's biggest teams, but was unable to participate in the last World Cup series due to a serious hamstring injury. Germany's coach at the time, Hansi Bligh, didn't want to let him back on the field, so he told him to focus on the future. It was a huge disappointment, but Wirtz wanted to come back stronger, using the break as motivation to improve his skills.
During these years, he won glory with Bayer Leverkusen and moved to England in a huge transfer for his country. Now, the 23-year-old must be the leading man for Germany's success in the World Cup. Missing the World Cup in the past gives him the motivation to resume the fight. Meanwhile, he was unsuccessful in his first season at Liverpool and his performances were not as good as expected.

By the end of the season, he had 7 goals and 8 assists in 48 matches, but he was absent in most of the big matches. He was often seen on the field, but only had one goal and one assist to his credit. In the 2025–26 season, he scored only a handful of goals and his buyout price dropped from £140 million to £100 million.
Now, with new coach Anthony Irola joining the team, he has a chance to prove his potential again. In Germany, he currently plays as the left wing forward for the team he practices and is waiting to progress to the World Cup.
For the last time in history, he travels with Germany, he has to play a key role for the group and make plans for it. If he wins this World Cup for his country, it will give new dimensions to his club football career.
