DAS soon to Roma side: €6m extra coming from Basel

TAS ruling in Roma's favor in Calafiori contract dispute nears; 6 million euros from Basel.

In 2022, Roma sold Riccardo Calafiori to Basel. A 40% interest in future resale rights was added to the deal, adding to the €2.5 million then due. Roma later received €1.5 million from Calafiori when he moved to Bologna.

But the Rome-Basel agreement also reportedly contained a 50% percentage clause for future resale. As a result, Basel accounted for half of the total amount received when Calafiori was sold to Arsenal; Roma got nothing out of it. Roma argued that they had the right to do so and turned off the Lausanne Sports Tribunal.

Now the tribunal is poised to rule soon in favor of Roma's argument, reports Il Messaggero. If such a verdict is handed down, Roma will receive an additional €6 million for sure.

Calafiori, meanwhile, has repeatedly expressed his desire to one day return to Roma. But in the near term his journey looks set to continue in the English Premier League or be diverted by a new bid from Real Madrid. Real Madrid are also said to be trying to sign the Italian defender from Arsenal.

As of late, Calafiori was a substitute in the Champions League final; His team lost that match to PSG.

If the Roma management can take advantage of this opportunity to generate additional funds, it will help with their squad structure and transfer plans for next season.
