World Cup Weather: Best Standings on Day Nine, USMNT in Tournament
On the ninth day, better weather is expected for the World Cup matches, with temperatures and sunshine at various locations.
This World Cup will be very hot and at times stormy, with most of the 104 matches to be played above 90F (32C). The tournament, which spans the United States, Canada and Mexico, could be the hottest ever since the last time it was held in North America in 1994. Heat and humidity can affect how matches are played, but electricity can create more of a problem. According to lightning code in the United States, any time lightning or electricity is detected, the match is stopped. If this happens, 30 minutes will start, but if another lightning strike occurs, it will reset again. Last summer, a match between the Women's Soccer Club and Benfica in North Carolina was delayed by 4 hours and 38 minutes due to lightning. "The Athletic" teamed up with Aaron Mandkoski, chief meteorologist at WKBW-TV Buffalo, to understand when and which games will be affected. The USMNT vs. Australia match will be played at Lumen Field, Seattle; Starts at 12pm (PT), 3pm ET, depending on location. It was a beautiful day in Seattle for the match - partly-to-white skies with a temperature of 75F (24C) at 12:00 p.m. Temperatures will soar to 80F (27C) during the competition. Northwest winds will be light at 5 mph.
Scotland v Morocco at Gillette Stadium, Foxborough; Kick off at 6pm ET. This is also a good opportunity, blue skies evoke a lot of white skies. At 6 p.m., 80F (27C), west wind at 5-10 mph.
match between Brazil and Haiti at Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia; Start at 8:30 ET. There is no chance of weather affecting this match. Today will be sunny with a high of 83F (28C) in Philadelphia. At 8:32 the sun will be blocked and the sky will be clear with a temperature of 80F (27C). During the match, it will be as low as 75F (24C) with a west wind at 10 mph.
Match between Turkey and Paraguay at Levi's Stadium, Santa Clara, California; 8 p.m. (PT), starting at 11 a.m. ET. The weather will win again today and all four races will be in excellent conditions. Sunny and pleasant today in the San Francisco Bay Area, with a high of 75F (24C). At 8 o'clock, the sky will be clear and the temperature will be 65F (18C). The sun sets at 8:32 and the race ends at 10, with skies still clear and a temperature of 62F (17C). Winds will be southeast at 5-10 mph.
