FIFA and Fifpro deal to entitle players to new deal

Football's global governing body FIFA has signed a landmark agreement with global players' union Fifpro. This will give players contractual rights when making important decisions.
FIFA has signed a memorandum of understanding with Fifpro to protect players' interests and address their legitimate claims. It also says the deal will "make changes to the governance of professional football".
For the first time, Fifpro will have regional rights over key areas in football governance, with enhanced rights at the FIFA Council. FIFA has signed this agreement on the basis that all legal action by Fifpro will not be taken.
In this agreement, there are important aspects that the players are provided with protection. It provides safeguards against malpractice, solo practice, passporting and abuse of registration systems.
In such situations, the players can cancel their contracts and recover the costs demanded. Further, swift action will be taken against any club that violates the agreement.
Fifpro president Sergio Marsi said: "This agreement is an important step forward for football. Having players and their representatives have a relevant voice in decisions that affect their lives will benefit football."
FIFA president Gianno Infantino welcomed the deal at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City ahead of the start of the World Cup. "It's about unity, about bringing everyone together," he said.
