Spain advanced to the round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 by beating Austria 3–0 in the round of 16. After the win, young star Lamin Yamal commented on his team's goals and the next stage of the competition.
"I have to say a big thank you for the support I get; it's a big motivation for me. Winning the World Cup is the biggest achievement. It's what I dreamed of as a child — to win the World Cup with Spain," Yamal said.
On the potential opponents that await in the next round, he said, "Croatia or Portugal — whoever comes. It's an honor to play against Cristiano Ronaldo, but that's not the only thing to think about; our focus is on the team's progress," AS quoted him.
Spain will face the winner of the Portugal-Croatia match in the 1/8 round.
