Kylian Mbappe has set a new milestone in World Cup knockout history. France's forward scored a sharp finish in the 45th minute against Sweden in the 2026 World Cup Round of 16 to take his tally to nine in the knockout stages. France was leading 1–0 at that time.
Football informant Fabrizio Romano confirmed the feat on social networking site 'X'. Mbappe currently averages 9 goals in 9 matches in the knockout stages of the World Cup.

As Mbappe reached this new peak, he overtook the two previous Brazilians, Leonidas (8 goals in 5 matches) and Ronaldo (8 goals in 10 matches).
The World Cup 2026 tournament is being held from June 11 to July 19 in three countries - USA, Canada and Mexico. The current title is held by Argentina.
