Both teams were unable to finish off scoring opportunities in the first half. South Africa came back strong after the break and took the lead in the 63rd minute through Thapelo Maseko's accurate finish. That goal was the only difference until the end and South Korea lost.

The win qualified South Africa for the knockout round. The World Cup 2026 will be held from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Its current champion is Argentina; 2022 Qatar eventually won the trophy, defeating France 4–2 on penalties after a draw (3–3).
