Portugal have dreams of winning the World Cup and Bruno Fernandes is ready to play his part. Portugal is considered the most likely team to win the trophy for the first time and they have a 7% winning probability. So far they have finished third in 1966 and then lost in the semi-finals against France in 2006. But Portugal are confident of their tournament opener against DR Congo and Fernandes believes they are a powerful side capable of making history.

"We have a dream to become world champions," he told FIFA. "Portugal has to be central to what we can do to change the fact that we haven't won it yet. We feel good about winning the Nations League in 2024-25. It is ideal for us and confirms the talent of Portugal's players. We are a very strong group. We sincerely believe that we can win the best World Cup. We are always working together to reach our final goal.

Portugal begin their campaign in Group K on Wednesday, where they also face Uzbekistan and Colombia. They are led by Cristiano Ronaldo, who is poised to make it his sixth World Cup and win the only trophy that has eluded him in his career. Ronaldo, the only player to score in five different World Cups, believes Fernandez will have the impact and experience on board to benefit Portugal. "We are very proud to have Cristiano as a compatriot, teammate and player who can bring us closer to winning the World Cup," he said. "He was never satisfied with anything in his life, and he always strived to go above and beyond. He has taught us all these developments.

Ronaldo's leadership will certainly help Portugal as a whole; I hope he can always score more goals and help us reach our desired goal.

In the lead-up to the tournament in Houston, Portugal, it has been reported that coach Roberto Martinez has decided not to renew his contract outright without rebranding. So, he will leave after the end of the tournament, but with other members of the team, he wants to win the trophy.
