Bristol City's interest is genuine - Musino

Portmouth coach John Musino has revealed that his summer move to Bristol City was based on genuine interest. Talks of a Muccino move to Aston Gate have been rife on social media after Bormouth maintained their Championship status for two successive seasons. At one point, it looked like Musino could move to City, but now that the Premier League season is back on track, and following Bristol City's appointment of new coach Michael Skupala, Musino has admitted that nothing has progressed with his address other than talks.

"Bristol City's interest is genuine," he told BBC Radio Solent. "It came to the club's first address at the beginning of the summer and there was a conversation. But it didn't go beyond that; there was no official approach from the club at that point in time." Last season, Moussino led Borough to an 18th-place finish, eight points above relegation. The Warmouth job is Musino's primary role in football management, and in his three full seasons, he has become a fixture at Bratton Park, promoting the club from League One and into the second tier.

"I didn't make any moves in the summer," Muccino added. "After the end of the season I was clear that I had no desire to leave the branch and I spoke to the Borough fans this summer and they said it had been a difficult summer and some were surprised to see me back in Southsea. But as important as it seemed in the prensa, it never became exciting. The Borough players are currently back in training with friendlies scheduled for Bristol Rovers and Wickham based. Quoted in the EFL Cup Championship against QPR and Lincoln City. Matches will take place.Musino wants to go with a much-strengthened squad for the opening matches and make new additions in the summer transfer window.

"There's a lot going on right now," Musino said. "We are trying to improve the ability to pay fees for players, we are trying to change where we were in the last two summers. Last year we spent about four million and we are trying to go over it now, but we know ourselves what it is in relation to the current market situation. The main aspect to improve this season is that some people come back somehow this summer and it will be very important if we bring anyone before the end of this window."
