Leading experience: VAR flaws in Ghana's match against England
Ghana coach Carlo Queiroz has questioned the effectiveness of VAR in their match against England at the 2026 World Cup.

VAR missed a crucial moment again in the match between Ghana and England. Despite Ghana's goalless draw against England, Ghana coach Carlo Queiroz insists his side should be awarded a penalty.
At the end of the match, when Prince Kwabena Adu entered the penalty area, Esri Kanza brought him down and no penalty was awarded after the incident, Queiroz said. "Do we still use VAR? Does it work?" Queiroz said with a laugh.

"It's a clear penalty that should be given to Ghana. They're very shocked. It's a clear penalty and should be a red card," he added.
Former England players on the BBC, Wayne Rooney and Micah Richards, criticized Kansa's move. "It was a penalty," Rooney said.
Although doubts about VAR's effectiveness and debate over the reasons why the penalty was not awarded continue, opinions on the incident are widely cited. Darren Khan, assistant in the 2010 World Cup finals, said, "I have no doubt, it was a penalty."
