German Football Association (DFB) statement on Nagelsmann's departure
The German Football Association has revealed the reason for Julian Nagelsmann's resignation as national team coach. Following a disappointing campaign at the 2026 World Cup, the DFB board unanimously accepted his request to leave and immediately canceled the contract.

The German Football Association (DFB) has issued an official statement on the resignation of Julian Nagelsmann as head coach of the Germany national team from 2023.

According to the DFB announcement, the shareholder representatives and the supervisory board unanimously decided to terminate the contract with Nagelsmann with immediate effect, as proposed by DFB president Bernd Neuendorf. The DFB also said Nagelsmann had asked in a secret meeting yesterday to be relieved of his duties after the disappointing results at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
DFB President Bernd Neuendorf said: "The German Football Association would like to express its special thanks to Julian Nagelsmann for his work since September 2023. He has worked with the highest level of commitment and extraordinary enthusiasm. He is also a man of great responsibility and integrity; we all respect him."
