Gilberto Mora: Mexico's 17-year-old referee's miracle World Cup win

Gilberto Mora, 17, produced an impressive performance for Mexico in their World Cup match against Ecuador. Mora, aged 17 years and 259 days, became the second youngest player to play at the World Cup in Nagok. He was also 20 days older than Brazil's Mass Pele in 1958.

Also, he participated in Mexico's first youth soccer World Cup at 17 years and 240 days, breaking the 96-year-old record set by Manuel "Zaccatus" Rosas in 1930.

He plays for Liga MX club Tijuana, and is considered one of Mexico's top young talents. His start against Ecuador was his fifth for Mexico.

Despite registering just one assist in previous games, his performance in the 72-minute match against the Czech Republic led Mexico coach Javier Aguirre to make the bold decision to start him.

That quickly created a number of chances at the Aceka Stadium, and in the next 16 minutes, he denied an effort from distance and then curled an effort brilliantly towards the three-quarter level.

Mexico won the match 2-0.
